Awesome # 322: Your Power of Perspective

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”
-Wayne Dyer

Is the glass half empty or is it half full? Does the rose have thorns or do thorns have roses? Whatever the cliché may be, you choose how you want to look at things, and you decide whether the world you live in is a horrible one, or an awesome one.

Living in the north, I have had plenty of opportunity for introspection, self-confrontation and personal growth. I think it’s part of life here for every qallunaat. While the experience of living in the north is interesting, exotic and, in many ways, amazing, it can also be very raw and in your face. And here, there’s not much by way of distracting yourself from it or distracting you from yourself.

In the north – especially in the tiny, fly-in north – your perspective can make or break you. Thus, awesome is your power of perspective.

For my power of perspective, and all of the experiences I’ve had over the past year that have forced me to see it, nakurmiimairaaluk.
